Hawaiʻi born artist Ryan Schulz has been developing illustrative functional ceramics since 2013.  His background in psychology and experience working in the food industry has heavily influenced his voice in clay; examining themes of cultural projection, escapism, and consumption within American pottery.  In the time between earning his MFA at the University of Florida and returning to Oʻahu, Ryan spent time working in nonprofit and educational institutions as a studio technician, faculty, gallery manager, and artist in residence.  He has shown in galleries across the nation and is featured with the Charlie Cummings Gallery in Gainesville, Florida.  Most recently, Ryan received a purchase award from the state foundation for work done at Raku Hoʻolauleʻa.  Currently, he splits his time between teaching at Kapiʻolani Community College, kiln repair, and as the head educator at Nendo Studio Hawaiʻi.
