Aloha, I'm Susan, potter and owner of Nendo Studio Hawaiʻi. Mahalo for your interest in the studio.
Nendo Studio was created from of my love of clay and the people in the clay community. As a child, I gravitated to ceramics above all other forms of art. Creating with clay felt like magic to me. It still does. Growing up, my parents were always doing art projects and sharing their love of the arts. I still remember making a handmade ceramic dolphin in school and slip casting christmas ornaments at the rec center near our house. Since my mother is Japanese, I was raised with Japanese art, culture and traditions. All of these influences are reflected in my art which is inspired by my heritage as well as my love of nature. Clay allows me to blend all these things. Raku especially allows me to work with clay and the natural elements of air and water to create unique pieces.
During my journey with clay, I’ve also been blessed with friends and mentors that have shared their knowledge and love of clay. I want to continue this tradition of sharing knowledge with others. My hope is that Nendo Studio will be a welcoming place where your artistry grows and you connect with a supportive community that loves clay. Whatever you create will be magical. Art doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be yours.
Mahalo again for stopping by. I hope to see you at Nendo soon.
