Makana Wong is a local boy from Kaimuki who began his ceramics journey at Kalani High School (under the direction of Gerald Toyama). Following a degree in Fine Arts from Pacific University and teaching degree from University of Hawai’i, he currently leads the Ceramics program at Moanalua High School. Makana enjoys creating small batch functional goods and experimenting with new wheelthrowing techniques. With 20 years of ceramics experience, he finds the most joy in teaching others his craft, and is honored to become an instructor at the new Nendo Studio Hawaiʻi. Outside of ceramics, Makana is busy chasing around his two toddlers and figuring out how to scrape playdoh off the ground before his wife gets too upset.
